We’re currently working with a well-established and forward-thinking regional civil engineering contractor who are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join their senior team in the West Midlands.
Operating for over three decades, this business has built a strong reputation for delivering infrastructure, S278 works, and public realm schemes for a mix of local authorities, private developers, and Tier 1 clients. With continued growth and a secured pipeline, they are now looking for a commercially astute leader to take ownership of their commercial function.
Role Overview: As Commercial Manager, you’ll oversee a team of Quantity Surveyors and commercial staff, ensuring the successful delivery of projects across cost control, procurement, and contractual management. You’ll report directly into the Board and play a key role in the strategic direction of the commercial department.
Key Responsibilities: - Lead and mentor a commercial team across multiple live projects
- Ensure accurate CVRs, forecasting, valuations and final accounts
- Oversee subcontract procurement and tendering processes
- Support operational delivery teams on NEC and bespoke contracts
- Contribute to business planning and client negotiations
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities across projects
Ideal Candidate: - Proven experience in a Commercial Manager or Senior QS role
- Background in civil engineering – ideally S278 works, highways, or infrastructure
- Strong understanding of NEC contracts and public sector frameworks
- Able to manage and develop commercial teams effectively
- Strategic mindset with strong commercial acumen
- Based in or within commuting distance to the West Midlands
