The Role: We’re looking for an experienced Design Manager to join an established main contractor, working on the delivery of a major student accommodation project.
The role will involve taking responsibility for the design management and coordination process, working closely with consultants, subcontractors and the wider project team to ensure the design is coordinated, compliant and delivered in line with programme.
Key Responsibilities - Manage the design process from pre-construction through to completion
- Coordinate architects, consultants, specialist subcontractors and internal project teams
- Chair design team meetings and ensure actions are tracked and closed out
- Review drawings, specifications and technical submissions for compliance and buildability
- Manage design programmes and ensure information is released in line with the construction programme
- Identify and resolve design risks, clashes and technical issues
- Manage RFIs, design changes and consultant information
- Work closely with the site and commercial teams to ensure smooth project delivery
- Coordinate architectural, structural and MEP design information
- Ensure compliance with Building Regulations and relevant statutory requirements
- Liaise with the client, consultants and key project stakeholders
- Monitor consultant and subcontractor design performance throughout the project
Requirements - Previous experience as a Design Manager within the construction industry
- Background working for a main contractor or regional contractor
- Experience delivering student accommodation, residential, hotel or similar multi-room projects
- Strong understanding of the full design management process
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams
- Good understanding of architectural, structural and MEP interfaces
- Strong knowledge of Building Regulations and technical compliance
- Ability to identify and resolve design and buildability issues
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work closely with both pre-construction and site delivery teams
