Position Overview A leading San Diego-based general contractor is seeking an experienced
Preconstruction Manager to lead the preconstruction phase of complex commercial, healthcare, and multifamily projects. This role is responsible for cost estimating, constructability reviews, and coordination with clients, architects, and engineers to ensure projects are positioned for successful execution.
Key Responsibilities Preconstruction & Estimating - Lead preconstruction activities, including conceptual estimating, budgeting, and value engineering.
- Review plans and specifications for constructability and potential risks.
- Prepare detailed estimates, scopes, and bid packages for multiple projects simultaneously.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to gather pricing and availability.
Client & Stakeholder Coordination - Serve as primary point of contact during preconstruction, fostering strong client relationships.
- Participate in design and constructability meetings with architects, engineers, and owners.
- Provide technical guidance and solutions to clients and internal teams.
Project Planning & Strategy - Develop project schedules, phasing, and logistics plans prior to construction.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams to ensure smooth project handoff.
- Support business development by identifying opportunities and assisting in proposal preparation.
Leadership & Collaboration - Mentor and develop preconstruction and estimating staff.
- Collaborate with project teams to implement best practices and standardization across projects.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, local codes, and safety standards.
Qualifications - 7+ years of experience in preconstruction, estimating, or project management in commercial, healthcare, or multifamily construction.
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods, cost estimating, and scheduling.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, Procore, MS Office, and estimating software.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
